Yunchul Kim is a South Korean artist who is a painter, creator of sculptures with materials from advanced techniques, and composer of electroacoustic music.
This multidisciplinary artist creates complex works born from an interconnection of scientific, mathematical, physical, astronomical, philosophical and anthropological knowledge.
Yunchul Kim “Chroma 5 - Gyre”
Sculpture 2022“Chroma V” is a giant snake 50 meters long folded on itself in a big complicated knot.
This gigantic sculpture is a magnificent work made of metal and materials derived from new techniques.
It is placed in the centre of the Korean Pavilion and connected with another work in the exhibition: “Argos - The Swollen Suns”.
As soon as “Chroma V” receives a signal from “Argos — The Swollen Suns”, the snake comes alive and throbs with the iridescent reflections of its metal rings.
Yunchul Kim “Argos — The Swollen Suns”
Sculpture 2022Argos -the Swollen Suns is a large sculpture with a system consisting of several hundred glass tubes that flash as soon as it detects subatomic particles.
It immediately sends the signal that will trigger the movement of Chroma V.
Swollen Suns (literally swollen suns) refers to the expansion and scattering of end-of-life star particles and the appearance of new planets.
Yunchul Kim “La Poussière de Soleils”
Sculpture 2022“La Poussière de Soleils” is a sculpture named by Yunchul Kim in homage to the play by the Frenchman Raymond Roussel.
Made of a material invented by the artist, it is equipped with a whole system of microcomputers to emit kaleidoscopic colours visible only through special glasses.
Yunchul Kim “Impulse”
Sculpture 2018Impulse looks like a large Murano glass chandelier, yet it is not a chandelier but a pump.
Supposed to pump water from the Venetian Lagoon through its network of glass tubes, it connects the pavilion with its natural environment.
